• Weight that won't move / InBody 970

Body composition and the InBody 970

Weight is the wrong number. Two people can weigh the same and have very different amounts of muscle and fat.

The InBody 970 shows what your weight is made of, and we scan at every visit so changes are tracked, not guessed.

What this can be

What the scale misses.

A change in weight can mean several different things.

Losing muscle, not fat

Common with dieting and weight-loss medication.

Gaining muscle while losing fat

The scale may barely move while your body changes.

Visceral fat

Fat around the organs, linked with metabolic risk, can be high at a normal weight.

Imbalances

One side or limb can carry less muscle than the other.

Fluid shifts

Water changes can make the scale jump from day to day.

What we measure

What the scan measures.

  • Skeletal muscle mass

The muscle that moves you and supports your metabolism.

  • Fat mass

Total body fat, separate from total weight.

  • Visceral fat

An estimate of fat stored around the organs.

  • Segmental analysis

Muscle and fat in each arm, each leg and the trunk.

  • Phase angle

A marker of cell integrity, tracked over time.

  • Body water

    Inside and outside the cells.

We scan at every visit so changes are tracked, not guessed.

What happens next

Options, depending on what we find.

We go over the scan with you and use it to guide protein targets, training and, where relevant, weight-loss medication dosing. Repeat scans show whether the plan is preserving muscle.

Frequently asked

Common questions.

How much does an InBody 970 scan cost?

$75 per scan, or included with membership.

What does the scan measure?

Skeletal muscle mass, fat mass, visceral fat, segmental muscle and fat for each limb and the trunk, body water, and phase angle.

How do I prepare?

Come without having eaten or exercised for a few hours, use the bathroom beforehand, and remove metal jewelry. The scan takes about a minute and you stand on the device in light clothing.

Who should not have the scan?

The scan passes a small electrical current through the body, so it isn't used for people with a pacemaker or other implanted electronic device, or during pregnancy.

How often will I be scanned?

At every visit, so changes are tracked rather than guessed.

What is phase angle?

Phase angle reflects how well cell membranes hold an electrical charge. It is used as a marker of cell integrity and nutritional status, and we track how it changes over time.
